Project Description
Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, designed and built by McCree, masterfully combines historical charm with modern construction techniques. Featuring pre-cast wall panels, steel columns, wood truss flat roofs, and heavy hammered beam timber trusses topped with a distinctive steeple, the church is built to look timeless and endure for centuries. Key design elements such as exposed heavy hammered beam timber trusses, custom pre-cast stonework, gothic arched windows and doors, traditional church lighting, and flying buttresses enhance its historical appearance. The interior includes marble flooring, stained glass window inserts, custom wood pews, and custom cast-in-place structures like the altar, lectern, pulpit, and baptismal font, which contribute to the sacred atmosphere.
The church’s comprehensive floor plan meets the diverse needs of its congregation with a sanctuary, narthex, sacristy, kitchen, offices, restrooms, a multi-purpose fellowship hall, Bible study classrooms, a mothers and baby room, and a porte-cochere. Designed to blend with Florida’s natural environment, the church features native landscaping, natural grass parking, and minimal asphalt use, alongside elevated construction and minimal grading to reflect an eco-friendly approach. This thoughtful design ensures the church is not only a place of worship but also a community hub, supporting both religious and social activities. The Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church stands as a testament to the fusion of historical design and modern functionality, poised to remain a cherished landmark for generations.
