This is the fourth of a five-part series of posts about the McCree values of CARES, the glue that binds us. Our values are the foundation to building relationships, projects, and our company so all are Designed & Built Right. The CARES acronym reflects our culture, brand, and customer experience.
Craftsmanship: “Built right or we make it right.”
Adaptable: “Plan ahead. Adapt to the day.”
Realistic: “We say what we mean. We mean what we say.”
Effective: “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.”
Stewardship: “To whom much is given, much is required.”
An Effective Building Serves You
“Effective” is the “E” in McCree CARES, our values. Effective is the measure of how well the space you build satisfies your needs, alleviates your concerns, and minimizes your risks, including how little the design, build, and occupy process disturbs your existing business from concept to keys.
An effective building, therefore, has two distinct stages: the window of creation and the time span of occupancy. The effectiveness of a building is largely revealed over time. You don’t want to be an owner who says, “If only I had thought about …” and lives with the regret of an edifice of ineffectiveness.
Construction is a disruptive, but necessary, part of the growing process. Every construction project, be it a new building, a renovation, or an addition, is not really about “the space.” Rather, it’s about the envisioned improvements to your reputation, productivity, capacity, and ROI—the hoped-for potential the space brings to your team and organization. Physical space, therefore, is a conduit to your larger vision, brand, culture, and agenda. An effective “conduit” is far more than a foundation, walls, and a roof thrown overhead and called completed.
There are many capable general contractors, like McCree, who can efficiently erect a structure. That’s the science of construction.
Creating an effective workspace, however, is the art of our industry. And it starts by us asking you a ton of probing questions. The more you talk, the better we understand you and your many needs. Designing and building can seem overwhelming to you, but unpacking your desires is the stuff we do every day. Translating your concepts into a high functioning, physical representation with minimal disruption to your life and business is our specialty—our desire for our value of effective.
St. Francis of Assisi is commonly attributed with writing, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” When listening to what you’re saying, we’re hearing with ears tuned to your effectiveness.
For example, if you are the type of leader who wants to give everyone a seat at the table during company meetings, then we will take note of your leadership style. We’re likely to suggest you build a larger than normal conference room specifically designed to comfortably accommodate your team.
It’s these tiny, yet important, touches rippling through the coming years of use that matter. Chances are you’ll be doing business out of your new space for a long time. There’s nothing better than saying to yourself, “Thanks to a great front-end process, we did it right!”
Effectiveness reflects the depth and engagement of our relationship. Getting to know your dreams and you is a powerful intangible for you getting what you want on budget, on time, and to your standards with the fewest hassles and lowest risks.
Bricks and mortar are materials. Design and build your workspace so it makes a material difference. Make it effective. Ready for us to start listening to you? Tell us about your project.
