School Renovations Planned for 5 OCPS Schools
In an exciting development for education infrastructure in Orlando, McCree General Contractors & Architects has been awarded contracts for the construction and renovation of several schools by the Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) district. This move comes as part of OCPS’s commitment to enhancing learning environments and addressing the growing needs of its student population by school renovation projects. With such a large undertaking McCree is ready to expand the landscape of education in Central Florida while increasing future growth in our community.
Dr. Phillips, Whispering Oaks, And Hunters Creek Elementary Schools
THREE SITE COMPREHENSIVE RENOVATION PROJECT
The first contract awarded to McCree encompasses a comprehensive scope of work across three elementary schools: Dr. Phillips, Whispering Oaks, and Hunters Creek. These projects aim to not only expand the capacity of these institutions but also to modernize their facilities to better serve the educational needs of students and staff.
Remodeling of Existing Spaces: As part of the renovation efforts, existing spaces will undergo remodeling where necessary. This may involve converting general classrooms into specialized facilities such as labs, depending on the specific requirements of each school. The goal is to optimize the use of available space and enhance the overall functionality of the campuses.
Building Additions: McCree will be constructing additions at each site, ranging from 9 to 12 classrooms. These new spaces will accommodate various educational needs, including laboratory spaces, resource rooms, and planning areas, in addition to general classrooms. Importantly, these additions will seamlessly integrate with the existing campus infrastructure.
Campus-wide Capital Renewal: Recognizing the importance of maintaining and upgrading essential systems, McCree will undertake campus-wide capital renewal projects. This includes the replacement or refurbishment of critical systems such as heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, building automation systems (BAS) controls, chillers, and select low voltage systems like CCTV and fire alarms. These upgrades are vital for ensuring the safety, comfort, and efficiency of the school environments.
Lake Nona & East River High Schools

In addition to the elementary school projects, McCree has also been tasked with renovating two high schools: Lake Nona High School and East River High School. These projects focus on improving the HVAC systems at both sites, enhancing comfort and energy efficiency while ensuring a conducive learning environment for students and staff. The scope of work for the high school renovations includes:
Campus Renovation: The renovations extend beyond HVAC upgrades to encompass various aspects of campus infrastructure. By modernizing these facilities, McCree aims to create inspiring learning environments that foster student success and well-being.
HVAC Capital Renewal: McCree will undertake significant upgrades to the HVAC systems at Lake Nona High School and East River High School. This involves refurbishing or replacing existing air distribution equipment, upgrading the building automation systems, and addressing equipment and piping replacements in the central energy plants. These enhancements will contribute to better indoor air quality, temperature control, and energy conservation.
